Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Richland County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email message may be kept for the time needed to answer it. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers may record routine technical information about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Page-view dates and times
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure how the site is used, such as which pages receive traffic and where a visit ends. Analytics providers combine those observations into traffic reports. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Delivering a search query to the selected outside service
- Finding and resolving security or performance faults
- Operating pages and improving load speed
- Measuring which material visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect likely interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Richland County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general routing information for the Richland County Sheriff, Wisconsin Circuit Court, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into third-party criminal files or consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is subject to the provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and disclosure practices rather than this policy. Review those terms before sending a query because this site does not control them.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff, court, Wisconsin agency, legal-help, or outside search websites. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be handled by:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and site performance
- Search partners receiving a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on a page
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so Richland County Criminal History cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A verified report that a minor supplied such data will be addressed by deleting it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may differ by place of residence. Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs access to records held by public authorities, while Wis. Stat. §§ 165.82-165.84 address state criminal-history searches, reporting, and dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask what personal information is held about them
- Seek deletion where the law permits it
- Decline certain forms of processing when that right applies
